FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Prototype is a permanent museum in downtown Columbus designed for curious adults. Think of it as a playground for the senses—where art, media, and technology collide in bold, immersive experiences. It’s experimental, emotional, and never quite the same twice.

  • Prototype features some cutting-edge computer graphics and animations, 100% designed and built by world-class professional human artists and animators. If AI can do it, Prototype has already moved past it, or subverted it in ways that give creative control back to you. While our human developers and designers may use intelligent technology tools like any great film or game studio, the work itself is created by people for people.

  • Prototype is open Wednesday through Sunday. Exact hours may vary depending on programming, so be sure to check our Visit page for the latest. Hours are subject to change.

  • Tickets are available for purchase now. Head to our Visit page or click “Purchase Tickets” at the top of the page.

  • Yes! Prototype gift cards are now available and can be purchased online.

They’re the perfect way to share the experience with a friend, partner, or the most curious person in your life.

  • Yep, so long as they are 16 years or older. Prototype was specifically designed for adults to share with other adults and makes a great experience for parents to explore together with their adult or high-school age children. No children under 16 will be admitted, including infants, and there are no refunds for those violating this restriction.

  • Prototype provides a unique experience for adults to interact and socialize together without competing with children during those interactions. While we adore babies, toddlers and school-age children, some Prototype content is not appropriate for them. Our commitment to experimentation requires none of the limitations that designing for children requires. Please respect the Museum's choice, and remember there are wonderful museums for children here in Columbus, including COSI and the Zoo.

  • Right out front! Prototype has its own lot with free parking for guests.

  • Absolutely. Our space is designed to be physically accessible, and we’re actively working on sensory considerations and neurodiverse-friendly programming. If you have a specific question or request, reach out, we’re happy to help.
